Kreisberg Talks Helena Slater And Dean's Casting In 'Supergirl' TV Series And Stories Prepare For Them

| By

"Supergirl" TV series cast went under huge scrutiny following its announcement, particularly Mehcad Brooks who was cast as James Olsen.

Melissa Benoist, who plays the title role, was also deemed too slim for the Kryptonian. One casting had fans of the superhero show raving though - Helena Slater.

Many Supergirl fans are happy about Slater being part of the "Supergirl" TV series cast owing to the fact that it was her who played the same role in the 1984 film version.

Casting actors who played superhero roles before has been a trend in Warner Bros. John Wesley Shipp, who played in 1990 series "The Flash" is currently playing as the father of Barry Allen in its 2014 counterpart. Dean Cain, who played as Superman in a TV series decades ago, is also part of the "Supergirl" TV series cast.

Talking to Comick Book Resources, series developer Andrew Kreisberg talked about Helen Slayer's "Supergirl" casting. He said Helen Slater and Dean Cain are both part of the series even if they are not connected to the superhero. In fact, these two characters have a huge story line prepared for them.

"Well, Helen Slater, which, as always, again, we're fanboys first. And some things were more successful than others, but Helen Slater, just like [TV's original Flash] John Wesley Shipp, is a tremendously talented actor. And regardless of whether she had an affiliation with Supergirl, you'd be daft not to want her to be a part of your project. But the fact that she has that," Kreisberg said of their "Supergirl" TV series casting decision.

"We have some great stories planned for the two of them, just like with John Wesley Shipp. They're going to be a continuing part of the show, and a similar resource to what the Kents are for Clark in various iterations. But then again, something different because they're really more her friends than they are her parents. She has parents. Kara remembers them. So it's a different dynamic, but just as interesting."

Also part of "Supergirl" TV series cast are David Harewood as Hank Henshaw and Chyler Leigh as Alex Danvers.
