The biggest stumbling block in staging the Floyd Mayweather Jr - Manny Pacquiao fight were accusations that the latter is using performance-enhancing drugs.
Floyd, who eventually won their mega fight last May 2, accused his Filipino rival of cheating by using PEDs and even demanded Pacman to undergo urine test. The fight has happened and Mayweather won. With this, one can only expect that this accusations will die down. Not for Paulie Malignaggi.
Talking to boxingscene.com, the "Magic Man" reiterated his opinion that Manny Pacquiao rose to fame quick because of the use of PEDs.
"I stand by my comments on Manny Pacquiao. I feel like what I've stated is the case," Malignaggi said in the interview.
"I have an educated opinion behind my reasoning of why I feel that way. I didn't just come out of it and pull it out of my ass. There has been a lot of great fighters in my generation and past generations. I didn't just single out Manny Pacquiao for a certain reason. I singled out Manny Pacquiao because to me it was very clear that there was something very fishy about him."
The half Italian - half American former IBF Light Welterweight and WBA Welterweight champ also brag about his boxing IQ.
"I'm allowed to make my opinions. I'm allowed to speculate, especially with what I know about boxing. My boxing IQ is far superior to anyone else that I ever speak to. I'm very confident in my boxing IQ. I'm very confident in the things I see. I've seen a lot of great fighters and I've never said anything about them - in regard to what I've said about Manny Pacquiao."
Paulie Malignaggi first commented about Manny Pacquiao's alleged PED use back in 2009 after the latter's victory over Miguel Cotto whom he also fought. He thinks it is impossible for someone like Cotto, who has the size and skill, to be beaten brutally by a smaller Pacman.
