There's good news for game developers. Applications are now open for the Valve Steam Controller Development Edition. But before the "Half Life" developer sends one your way, you'll have to give them details on what you plan to do with it.
"Valve asks applicants to describe the product they wish to use with the controller, it's expected release date, the size of the development team and other standard data like contact information," Polygon wrote.
Applications can be made via a web form posted at the Steam Community forums although it's only available to "select developers," as per the posting.
The Valve Steam Controller development edition is meant for developers "who want to built their game around [it]," according to GameRanx.
The website also thinks that there may be "a little something extra" with the Steam Machines' controller of choice.
"Experience a new level of precise control for your favorite games. The Steam Controller lets you play your entire collection of Steam games on your TV - even the ones designed without controller support in mind," the device's description reads.
"The Steam Controller features dual trackpads, HD haptic feedback, dual-stage triggers, back grips buttons, and fully-customizable schemes. Find your favorite mappings in the Steam Community, or create and share your own."
As per Valve, the wireless controller works with either a Steam Machine or other computers running Steam Big Picture Mode.
The first wave of "Get It Early" Steam Machine pre-orders have reportedly sold out less than a month after it was announced. But Valve is so far silent on the exact number of units it managed to sell. Pre-orders made from now on will ship on the console-like device's November 10 release date.
Polygon said that the Valve Steam Controller will go on sale on the same day as the Steam Machines do. It is currently available for pre-orders for $49.99 for non-developers.
