A Bollywood version of hit Hollywood movie "The Fault In Our Stars" was reportedly announced last year and Varun Dhawan, one of India's most sought after actors was eyed for the lead role. This hunk actor could have been the inspiring character of Augustus Waters who suffers from cancer - if only he had not rejected the offer.
According to Mid-Day, Varun Dhawan had recently been offered by the filmmakers for the Indian version of "The Fault In Our Stars," but reportedly declined the offer. When the film was announced to go on production last year, he was reportedly considered for the role.
"Following the success of his last outing ABCD 2, the makers decided to approach him, but things didn't quite work out due to date issues," a source said in the report. "Varun was always the first choice for the role."
He was reportedly supposed to team up with actress Deepika Padukone. The makers are now reaching to other actors for the lead role in "The Fault In Our Stars" Indian version.
"Varun's last two films, 'Badlapur' and 'ABCD 2,' proved to be box-office hits and both released within a span of just six months," another source said in the report. "So, he is being choosy about the kind of projects he takes up now."
"The Fault In Our Stars" is the movie adaptation of John Green's bestselling novel. Its Hollywood version was directed by Josh Boone and featured actors Shailene Woodley, Ansel Elgort and Nat Wolff. It tells the story of love between a cancer patient who falls in love with a cancer survivor.
"We think the story will have an emotional [connection] with Indian audiences," Fox Star Studios said in the report by The Hollywood Reporter. "The original English version was released here a couple of weeks ago and is still running. The film has done a business of about $1 million."
