The first two seasons of "Homeland" were big among fans and critics. However, last season, the first without main character Nicholas Brody (Damian Lewis) was totally different.
The fourth season received minimal nominations from different award giving bodies. When the nominees for the 2015 Emmy Awards were announced, the HBO political drama got four nods.
This delighted series co-creator Alex Gansa. However, he still cannot get over the fact that season four was not recognized as much as it deserves. In fact, the snub made it hard for them to think about doing another season.
"It was truly unexpected and very gratifying at the same time," showrunner and co-creator Alex Gansa said in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter.
"It's hard to make a comeback, especially in Hollywood. Now I can really be honest and reveal just how devastated I was last season when we didn't get a nomination [last year]. It was really hard for everyone on the show."
For the 67th Emmy Award, "Homeland" is nominated for the Best Drama series, Best Lead Actress in a Drama series for Claire Danes, and Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series for director Lesli Linka Glatter.
Gansa and the rest of the crew are now gearing up for a bigger "Homeland" season 5 which according to earlier spoilers will take place in Germany.
This signals a massive shift from a war torn middle east to a peaceful country like Germany. Gansa explained what is waiting for fans in "Homeland" season 5.
"This story is current," he says of the new season. "With all of the stuff that's going on just south of Berlin in the Middle East and to the east in Russia and Ukraine, it's fascinating. Carrie is out of the intelligence business when the season starts and she finds herself in Berlin. It's a center for dissidence. That's where hacktivists go because German privacy laws are so strict. It's hard to have surveillance on people there."
