‘Glee’ Star Darren Criss Moving On To Indie Films After Successful Broadway Stint? Find Out More About His First Feature Film ‘Smitten!’

| By

"Glee" star Darren Criss is best known for his broadway shows and TV appearance. However, he will reportedly be making his first foray into the feature film world very soon.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the "Hedwig And The Angry Inch" star has signed on to be the lead for screenwriter Barry Morrow's directorial debut.

Although he already lent his voice for characters in "The Princess Kaguya" and "The Wind Rises", he will be appearing in a full feature film for the first time in Morrow's "Smitten!"

"Smitten!" will be a romantic comedy indie film based on a screenplay written by the Oscar-winning screenwriter (who won the trophy for "Rain Man"). Criss will be playing an American fashion executive.

THR described the indie film as "an enchanted fable, a caper with four romances" centering around "Glee" star Darren Criss' character. Three "bumbling members of the mafia" will kidnap him and take him to the alpine mountains.

MTV reported that filming will begin this Monday after the broadway star wraps up "Hedwig And The Angry Inch" where he plays Hedwig.

The movie will be shot in Italy, starting with a four-week schedule in Fane Alm, Southern Tyrol before moving to Rome for three weeks.

Meanwhile, there are still no updates on who the "A Very Potter Musical" star will be partnered with.

This has been a fruitful year for Criss - wrapping up "Glee" where he brought Blaine Anderson to life, having a successful run for his newest Broadway venture and receiving an Emmy Awards nomination for an original song in the Fox high school dramedy.

His "Glee" track, "Dreams Come True / Song Title: This Time", was nominated for outstanding original music and lyrics.

After conquering both TV and Broadway, he's now setting his sights on the big screen. Do you think "Glee" star Darren Criss is ready for his big screen debut?
