Most overpaid actor for 2012 in Hollywood is none other than funny man, Eddie Murphy. The actor experienced great success in the 80's and 90's with hits like "Beverly Hills Cop" and "Trading Places" and his recent films have flopped at the box office.
He became the most overpaid actor for returning only $2.30 for every $1 he earned in 2012, according to a report by Forbes.
Eddie Murphy's recent movies like: Imagine That, A Thousand Words and Meet Dave were flops at the box office. Last year's Tower Heist, which was supposed to be something of a return to form for the comedian, failed to wow at the box office, earning $153 million on an estimated budget of $75 million.
Forbes compiled their list using data on actors' earnings gathered for their Celebrity 100 list. Box office grosses and budget estimates are from Box Office Mojo. The list looked at the last three films each actor starred in over the last three years that opened in more than 2,000 theaters, calculating the return on investment for the studios who pay his (or her) salary.
In second place was Katherine Heigl with every dollar she was paid on her last three movies, the studios earned an average of $3.40. Heigl earned around $12 million a movie, but had flops in 2012 with movies like One For The Mone.
Reese Witherspoon ranks third on with an average $3.90 return for every $1 she was paid. Sandra Bullock is in fourth place with a $5 return for every $1 she was paid. Rounding out the top five is Jack Black, whose films returned only $5.20 for every $1 he was paid. Last year's comedy The Big Year barely registered at the box office.
Nicholas Cage was in 6th place, with $6 for every $1, Adam Sandler Denzel Washington in 7th and 8th respectively with $6.30 each, Ben Stiller was 9th with $6.50 and Sarah Jessica Parker was 10th with $7.
