At CES 2015, Samsung and Skybound Entertainment announced they're working together on a production. Just recently, the two companies revealed the result of their collaboration, the virtual reality thriller "Gone" for the Samsung Gear VR headset.
"During the MobileBeat conference, Skybound Entertainment revealed that 'Gone' would be created by J.T. Petty who is most well known for his work in film and video game producing," Android Headlines said.
Petty's previous works include Ubisoft's "Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell" in 2002 and survival horror game "Outlast" in 2014. In the same year, he also worked on Telltale Games' episodic interactive game "The Walking Dead: Season Two."
For the uninitiated, Skybound Entertainment is the company behind the hugely successful "The Walking Dead" comic book series and responsible for adapting it to for TV via AMC which premiered in 2010.
"Gone" will be a virtual reality suspense thriller for the Samsung Gear VR headset.
"3D is just an expansion of an existing technology, but VR is a whole new experience," Skybound's David Alpert said as reported by VentureBeat.
Unlike traditional video, Gear VR users can turn their heads around and look at a 360-degree scene.
"You have to create four fields of view. How do you lead the user," Samsung Milk VR's Apfel said. Milk VR is the Korean tech firm's video service that provides VR content for their virtual reality headset.
Samsung has also collaborated with other entities to provide 360-degree video content for the Gear VR. Earlier this month, Franchise Herald reported that it worked with Team USA to give a view of athletes' preparations for next year's Olympic Games.
Apps have also come out that let users explore real-world locations such as university and college campuses as well as restaurants.
The Samsung Gear VR headset contains gyros and accelerometers that track user's head movements. It can be used with a compatible Samsung smartphone.
