George Zimmerman's defense team has released a color photo of the former neighborhood watchmen that was taken on the night he shot 17-year-old Trayvon Martin.
Although a grainy, black and white photo of George Zimmerman's bloody nose was released months, this is the first one that shows him in greater detail. Zimmerman is seen sitting in the back of a Sanford police cruiser on Feb. 26.
According to Zimmerman's attorneys, the picture was taken the night of the 28-year-old's fatal confrontation with the unarmed teenager, Trayvon Martin.
However, lawyers on both sides of the case disagree on the picture's significance.
"It's not a game changer," Zimmerman lawyer Mark O'Mara told Reuters, adding its only importance was how it vividly showed the injuries Zimmrman sustained during his confrontation with Martin.
Zimmerman is awaiting his trial date on June 10, 2013 after being charged with second-degree murder for shooting 17-year-old Trayvon Martin. He has claimed self-defense and is pleading not guilty.
Zimmerman says he fired in self-defense, after Trayvon attacked and beat him. The case drew international outrage after police declined to arrest Zimmerman, citing his self-defense claim.
Meanwhile, a similar case to Zimmerman and Martin occurred last week in Florida, sparking further debate. Jordan Davis, a 17-year-old black teen who was shot by Michael Dunn, a white man, after an alleged confrontation over loud music.
