Turing Phone Is One Tough Android Smartphone, Inside And Out; Pre-Orders Start July 31 For ‘World’s First Liquid Metal-Frame Smartphone’

| By

While smartphone manufacturers dabble with design, specs, camera performance and the like, Turing Robotic Industries (TRI) has come up with an Android smartphone for the security-conscious consumer. Apart from its high security, the Turing Phone is also made of a liquid metal-frame making it tough on the outside.

TRI's Android-powered smartphone is the world's first "cipher phone," as in decipher, CEO SYL Chao told Mashable.

The Los Angeles-based mobile tech company takes pride in its phone's security credentials.

"Turing Phone users will be able to send sensitive information to one another over an encrypted network, where nothing is stored on third-party networks and everything is securely encrypted behind the fingerprint sensor that's built into the side of the phone," the website wrote.

While Chao doesn't guarantee the phone is 100 percent secure, he did say that it's "quite high up there."

The Turing Phone is also tough outside being able to withstand bending and even breaking thanks to a liquid metal-frame TRI calls "Liquidmorphium."

"Liquidmorphium is a material stronger than both titanium and steel and disperses shock much more efficiently," VentureBeat wrote.

The Turing Phone is also waterproof, able to go under 30 feet of water, thanks to a nanoparticle material.

"When the phone is submerged, water enters the ports on the sides of the phone and covers the circuitboard inside. But even the board is covered with the nanoparticle treatment, so water molecules bounce off."

As for specs, the smartphone is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor, 3GB of RAM, a 5.5-inch 1080p FHD display, 13MP rear and 8MP front cameras and a non-removable 3,000mAh battery.

A 3.5mm headphone jack is shunned in favor of connecting accessories via Bluetooth. Charging is done via a magnetic port similar to Apple's MagSafe in place of microUSB.

The device runs on Android 5.0 overlaid with Turing UI.

Beginning in July 31, customers who pre-order the Turing Phone will also get a Bluetooth accessories package which includes a mobile keyboard, speaker, gaming headset and controller.

In a press release, TRI said the 16GB model retails for $610; the 64GB model at $740 and the 128GB model at $870. Color schemes will be announced on July 22.
