Limberbutt McCubbins is a 5-year-old neutered rescue cat that is running for president in 2016, according to The Huffington Post.
Soon after filing his paperwork with the Federal Election Commission, McCubbins, who is registered as a Democrat, has even revealed a snappy slogan.
“Together, we cat.”
McCubbins’ paperwork to be a candidate was filed by Isaac Weiss, a rising high school senior and friend of Limberbutt McCubbins’ owner, Emilee McCubbins, according to Bustle. Although this had all started out as a joke, Weiss is now reportedly receiving lots of letters and emails asking about Limberbutt McCubbins’ candidacy.
Weiss and his friends have reportedly received an inquiry from a lawyer looking to represent Limberbutt while others have asked about his citizenship.
“Me and my friends have begun to realize how easy it is to run for office, and have learned about the way the FEC and campaign finance work," explained Weiss.
“Not that we don't want anyone to run, but I personally don't think that if I'm applying to run for the most important position in the U.S.A., that I should be able to do it in 20 minutes. Or less. And without immediately proving that I'm at least a U.S. citizen."
McCubbins’ extracurricular interests reportedly include “sleeping, playing with his scratching post” and tearing paper. Although donations directed towards McCubbins’ campaign are not being accepted at this time, if they are in the future, they may be used for a good cause.
“If we later decided to take them, they will most likely be forwarded to the Humane Society or another organization for animals,” stated Weiss.
Hopefully McCubbins gets some votes as the cat is “ready to bring some fresh ideas to the table,” according to Weiss.
“For over 200 years, man has been running the show. And now, it’s cats’ turn to help lead the way,” stated Weiss.
