Is The ‘Archie’ Comics Drama Finally Happening? ‘The Flash’ And ‘Arrow’ EP To Produce ‘Riverdale’ For The CW!

| By

Who would have thought that an "Archie" comics drama would one day grace our screens?

Originally being developed at Fox, the one-hour series titled "Riverdale" has been moved to the CW with producer Greg Berlanti taking the lead, Deadline reported.

Berlanti is known for producing some of the network's most popular shows, including "Arrow" and "The Flash". He also produced another DC series, "Legends Of Tomorrow" which will be premiering this Fall.

"When Greg and I started talking about bringing these characters to life, our first thought was that the best home for them would be the CW," Archie Comics chief creative officer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa reportedly told the news site about the show. "It took a little longer for us to get there, but now that we're here, it's feeling terrific."

He will also be penning the pilot episode for the Archie Comics drama.

This won't be the first time that Aguirre-Sacasa and Berlanti will be working together, as well. The creative officer was reportedly a consultant producer in Berlanti's "Supergirl" which found its home in Fox.

"Riverdale" will supposedly be a "subversive take on the well-known franchise's wholesome town of Riverdale and residents Archie, Betty, Veronica, as well as Josie and the Pussycats".

It would be interesting to know who will play the famed characters in the upcoming live-action show. The actors who will be casted for the roles will have to break through the fear of not matching up to fan's preconceive image of the Archie, Betty, Veronica and Jughead.

In other news, Archie Comics published a reboot of the iconic story. Instead of the familiar faces of the Riverdale crew, however, the new comics showcased a more "realistic" portrayal of its characters.

The Huffington Post thinks the new look also brought "an edge and an honesty" that had been lacking in past issues, while still maintaining its wholesome quality.

The first issue of the reboot, illustrated by Fiona Staples ("Saga") and written by Mark Waid, was unveiled during the San Diego Comic Con over the weekend.

Confirmation of the drama moving to the CW also announced at the convention.

Who among the Riverdale residents do you want to see the most as a real person for the Archie Comics drama?
