One thing that enthusiasts would like about this cycling sports news is knowing Indonesian president Joko Widodo may be a high-ranking official but when he is on the streets of Jakarta, he likes to bike around.
The 54-year-old Indonesian president, known for his tough policies against crimes in his country, once toured CNN anchor Christiane Amanpour on a bike around the streets of Indonesia's capital, while wearing track pants and white sneakers.
"You must be the first cycling president," Amanpour quipped as seen on the video report, as the president smiled.
The CNN report on Indonesia's president and cycling sport news said that Widodo usually draws thousands of locals when he strolls on his bicycle around the streets of Jakarta.
This cycling enthusiast is reportedly a "rockstar" among crowds in Indonesia, with people reaching out to him for handshakes and some selfies.
Widodo answered questions about his presidency and some political issues while taking a slow ride with his bicycle along with Amanpour, a rare occurrence that deserves a place in cycling sports news outfits.
He told CNN that he likes to meet the people outdoors and go to the ground. This gives him the opportunity to check their government programs and know the real situation on the ground.
He reportedly goes out on the streets at least once a week, which becomes each of his bodyguard's worst nightmares.
"For me, it's very important to meet my people, to listen [to] what they want," Widodo shared on his political trademark of facing the people unannounced. "Indonesia is a big country and I want my people prosperous."
Widodo is reportedly known for his tough and strict policies against crimes related to drug dealing and corruption in the country. Earlier, executions were ordered for foreign nationals who were accused of smuggling drugs to Indonesia. There were those whose death sentence was served, but there was also one which was spared of the penalty such as Filipino national Mary Jane Veloso.
Many cycling sports news said that Indonesia is among the perfect places to engage in the sport. Website Travelling Two said Bali, Lombok and Java are three of the places that can pass as cycling trails.
The cyclists in the region, usually foreign nations, are reportedly a constant curiosity among the locals who would take photos of them while on the road, the cycling sports news website said.
The local people however are not new to bikes, as they get around with them to carry rice and crops and bring them to their customers.
