Two shot at a funeral service on Monday for a gang member as they were leaving the Catholic Church on the South Side of Chicago, according to reports.
The two shot at the funeral were alleged members of the Gangster Disciples aka GDs, according to Chicago police investigators.
One of the victims - 21-year-old Sherman Miller - died, and the second man was in critical condition at Stroger Hospital. Police say both were convicted felons and gang members.
The Chicago South Side shooting, according to the Chicago Tribune , took place while hundreds of mourners people packed inside St. Columbanus Church.
The motive for Monday's shootings also is unclear, according to the report, but it could be part of a long ongoing battle between the Gangster Disciples and the Black Disciples in the area.
The Rev. Corey Brooks spoke at the funeral for James Holman, 32, of Chicago, who was shot to death in an apparent gang-related shooting Nov. 19 in the 6000 block of South Michigan Avenue.
"I preached that we have a great need for God and peace in our neighborhoods," said Brooks, according to the report.
Chicago's homicide rate surge this year prompted New York Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly on Monday to criticize President Barack Obama for his reaction -- or lack thereof -- to gun violence in his hometown.
