Samsung Galaxy Note 5 Release Date Now Rumored To Be In August; Specs Expected To Include Exynos Processor, 2K Display

In an effort to get better sales performance after a lackluster Q2 performance, the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 release date will reportedly be moved up to next month.

The report comes from Reuters who cites a person familiar with the matter. Typically, the Korean tech giant launches the latest Galaxy Note phablet in September at IFA in Berlin. But the insider said a mid-August launch is being considered.

"The mid-August launch will likely put the new Note smartphone model on the market ahead of arch-rival Apple Inc's next iPhones," Reuters said.

The Cupertino tech giant is known for introducing its new iPhones in September. Franchise Herald reported that the iPhone 6s is expected to launch on that month.

And in the weeks leading up to the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 release date, more details emerge about the upcoming phablet's specs and features.

According to Sam Mobile, the Galaxy Note 5, known internally as "Project Noble," is expected to have Samsung's own Exynos 7422 processor.

"This SoC is expected to be the company's first true all-in-one solution (also known as ePoP), combining a 64-bit octa-core CPU, GPU, RAM, storage and the company's homegrown Shannon LTE modem in a single package."

An Exynos 7430 and 4K display was allegedly tested for the Note 5 but Samsung decided to settle with the 7422 and a 2K display. The Super AMOLED display is said to be flat and measure 5.67 inches. A Galaxy Note 5 edge Plus with a dual-edge curved display is also expected.

Renders of the Note 5 point to a glass back which could mean the upcoming phablet may not come with a removable battery and a microSD card slot.

An earlier Samsung Galaxy Note 5 release date may also affect the Gear A smartwatch's launch as they are expected to be unveiled at the same time.

Samsung has yet to confirm these reports.
