There will be no more "Hannibal" episodes in NBC after its third season. The network has officially canceled the horror series because of its struggle in ratings.
This axing did not sit well with many solid fans of the show and at the San Diego Comic-Con, they made NBC feel about their disgust.
The annual event was attended by series creator Bryan Fuller, EP Martha De Laurentiis and cast members Hugh Dancy and Richard Armitage.
Mads Mikkelsen was absent in the event. Despite the fact that they will all say goodbye after the last "Hannibal" season 3 episode, fans still showed their support. When the cancellation was mentioned in the panel, NBC was greeted by loud boos from fans.
Bryan Fuller though come in defense of NBC. He explained they are still lucky they reached "Hannibal" season 3 and the network allowed them to do scenes that are not common on a family network.
"Hey, NBC let us do some crazy shit for three years, they deserve our applause," Fuller told the audience adding that fans can still hope for a continuation after "Hannibal" season 3. Last week, the writer and director revealed Amazon and Netflix made a pass on his show.
Among the things fans can expect after "Hannibal" season 3 is a feature movie parading the same cast members.
"We are still looking," Fuller said about the show's quest for a new home. "There's the possibility of a feature."
Fuller first brought up the idea of a "Hannibal" movie few days after its cancellation last month.
"Obviously there is something appealing about seeing a full circle back to the big screen with this cast," he said when asked what would be the silver lining of Hannibal getting canceled unexpectedly.
"So I can't deny that that would be the most awesome of results from this cancellation Hannibal - Season 3 - hugh dancyon NBC. At least for me, because it feels like a big-screen show in the way we produce it and the way it is formalistically designed. And having someone like David Slade direct a Hannibal film with Mads Mikkelson and Hugh Dancy is incredibly exciting."
