Marvel and Sony announced last month that Tom Holland will star as the new Peter Parker in the "Spider-Man" reboot.
After conducting an extensive search, the producers finally found the right person to play the role.
"Sony, Marvel, Kevin [Feige] and I all knew that for Peter Parker, we had to find a vibrant, talented young actor capable of embodying one of the most well-known characters in the world," Amy Pascal said. "With Tom, we've found the perfect actor to bring Spider-Man's story into the Marvel Cinematic Universe."
Now that the producers have found their newest superhero, then their next target is to find an actress to portray Aunt May. This character plays an important role in "Spider-Man" since she's the one who raised Peter Parker. According to Variety, Marisa Tomei is their top candidate for the role but the Marvel and Sony haven't made any official announcement yet.
"An offer was made late last week for the Oscar-winning actress to join Tom Holland, who was recently tapped to play the webslinging superhero," their sources said. The 19-year-old actor is confirmed to appear in "Captain America: Civil War" next year, but Marisa Tomei may not appear until the "Spider-Man" reboot hits the theaters in 2017.
Upon hearing the latest reports, fans took Twitter to express their disappointment on Marvel's casting with Marisa Tomei. Most of them think that she's too young and hot to play Aunt May.
In the previous "Spider-Man" series, Rosemary Harris and Sally Field who were in their 60s and 70s played the role of Peter Parker's beloved aunt.
The brunette beauty just turned 50 and still looked amazing for her age, which makes her an unlikely candidate to play May Parker, who is depicted in the comic books to be an elderly and white-haired widow.
However, various comic book and television stories have made Aunt May a younger, more active participant in Peter Parker's adventures as reported by The Guardian.
May Parker is a strong and independent woman in her late forties or early fifties based on the Ultimate Marvel version. Since the "Spider-Man" reboot will be set back in high school, then it is just right that Aunt May will be in her 50s. But still some people think she's too hot to play the role.
