Canadian consumers interested in virtual reality are about to get a treat as the Samsung Gear VR Innovator Edition is now available for pre-order via Best Buy. The Korean virtual reality headset is scheduled for July 17 release date in the country with a suggested retail price of CAD $249.99.

"The availability of Gear VR confirms Samsung is committed to this new platform. Along with our great partners Oculus and Best Buy, we're excited to work with the developers, content creators, partners to lead the mobile VR revolution in Canada."
Oculus Head of Mobile Max Cohen reiterated his company's support for the Samsung Gear VR Innovator Edition release in Canada and highlighted its capabilities.
"Whether consumers are interested in watching movies on the moon in Oculus Cinema, flying a jet pack in richly detailed worlds, or visiting far-off locations via 360 Photos, Gear VR makes it all possible."
The virtual reality headset device is compatible with the Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 edge. Specs include Quad HD Super AMOLED displays with 557ppi pixel density with a 96-degree field of view, an accelerometer, proximity and other sensors. It also comes with an anti-fog system for a better viewing experience.
According to Digital Home, Gear VR users can access the Oculus library of VR content which includes apps, games and videos available for free or with a premium.
The Samsung Gear VR Innovator Edition is now available for pre-order exclusively from BestBuy.ca. Starting July 17, it will be sold online via BestBuy.ca and at Samsung Experience Stores for a suggested retail price of $249.99.
The consumer version of the Gear VR release date is set for later this year.
