After 42 years in a coma following an accident, a Miami woman died on Wednesday at the age of 59.
According to the Miami Herald, Ewarda O'Bara spent 42 years in a coma after falling ill in 1970, threw up her medicine and fell into a diabetic coma.
O'Bara was 16 years old at the time when she fell into the coma. Her father and mother, Joe and Kaye O'Baratook care of their daughter. They would read to her, play music, feed her through a tube and bathe her till they passed away.
Ewarda's mom mentioned she felt the Virgin Mary's presence in the room over the decades, the author wrote A Promise Is A Promise: An Almost Unbelievable Story of a Mother's Unconditional Love and What It Can Teach Us.
The book and the family's commitment attracted well-wishers from around the world.
The Herald reports that before the teen lost consciousness, she asked her mother, Kay O'Bara, to never leave her side. She kept her promise, taking care of her daughter until she died five years ago.
