Will fans finally hear a new Red Hot Chili Peppers album this year?

While the American rock band has yet to set a release date for their new record, Flea's previously deleted tweet claiming that they are about to start recording has made many speculate that Red Hot Chili Peppers could indeed launch a new album this year.

And to further strengthen the bassist's claims, Rolling Stone recently reported that the band members are already actively gearing up in recording.

Drummer Chad Smith has even hinted fans on what to expect of their upcoming songs, and how they tried to make it sound "unique" and "very different" by incorparating an all new method.

"And we wrote a bunch of songs that way," Smith said. "And we're now going to try another method that will be really challenging for us and will bring new, exciting results for the band."

"We've written and recorded in a way that we've never done before, so the record is going great. We all have high hopes that it's going to take off and we're going to do something very different and unique for the Red Hot Chili Peppers."

Following their hit 2011 record "I'm With You," Red Hot Chili Peppers seemed to be really moving forward with their new album.

Will Ferrell's doppleganger and the band's drummer, Chad Smith previously shared details on the band's progress.

"We've already recorded some of the songs, just a few that we've been working on. But this is also going to be in addition to those. It's a new process. I don't know how long it's going to take. We'll have a record out next year," the 53-year-old drummer and doppleganger to comedian Will Ferrell said.

Adding, "The new album is shaping up good, man."

"We've got lots of songs, and we're working with an unnamed producer who is really challenging us to find new ways to come up with new music. We've done the 'guys get in the room and jam out songs, everybody playing together all at once' thing. And we wrote a bunch of songs that way. And we're now going to try another method that will be really challenging for us and will bring new, exciting results for the band. We've written and recorded in a way that we've never done before, so the record is going great. We all have high hopes that it's going to take off and we're going to do something very different and unique for the Red Hot Chili Peppers."
