The FOVE VR Kickstarter campaign ended over the weekend. But just before that, the company shared renders that preview an updated design for their eye-tracking virtual reality headset.
At its conclusion, the campaign managed to raise $480,650 from 1,480 backers, according to VR Focus. The amount is a few thousand dollars shy of its first stretch goal of $500,000. At that amount, FOVE pledged to develop mini-game for the VR headset. However, it did clear the campaign's $250,000 goal.
Another stretch goal at $700,000 stated that Valve's Lighthouse position-tracking technology will be integrated. Despite not meeting the said goal, the technology will still be supported thanks to an investment from Samsung Ventures as we reported last month.
"On July 2, the team noted that the Lighthouse base station and controllers will be an additional purchase outside of the Kickstarter campaign, but the headset will come with the sensors preinstalled," Tom's Hardware said.
The upstart also shared more news just before the FOVE VR Kickstarter campaign ended.
"In our efforts to make FOVE lighter, smaller, and better, the headset's form-factor has been refined and enhanced, resulting in better stability, increased performance, and a substantially more comfortable experience."
Renders of the new design came along the update as can be seen here.
Instead of the Velcro strap, the FOVE VR headset will now be secured by ratcheting, articulated clasps that allows it "to adapt to any head form."
The company also announced that the eye-tracking headset will be showcased at J-POP Summit 2015 from August 8 to 9 at the Fort Mason Center in the San Francisco Marina district. It also teased a VR "Attack on Titan" experience at the event.
Supporters of the FOVE VR Kickstarter campaign, which started May this year, can expect their pre-ordered development kits to be launched in May 2016. A wait list is still open for those who want to know when pre-orders open again.
