’Sherlock’ Season 4: Should Benedict Cumberbatch Join A Spinoff For Irene Adler? Will His Busy Schedule Allow Him More Time As The Famed Detective?

| By

Lara Pulver's cameo as Irene Adler in "Sherlock" season 4 is one of the show's fans' biggest wish when it airs in 2017. However, showrunners Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss have been keeping their mouths shut about the cast and cameo list for the show.

Hopes for her appearance on the BBC show increased, however, when Moffat told RadioTimes in June that the two pseudo-lovers actually have a timeline to passionately outsmart each other.

"And something like that happens between Irene and Sherlock every six months and THAT is their idea of a night of passion," the producer revealed about the chemistry between the frenemies.

He also pointed out that Sherlock lost the last time because he came to her rescue when she was in danger of getting her head chopped off by terrorists.

"Some people say he won; he lost, because he admitted he cared..." the EP continued.

But is their "passion" for each other enough to lure Irene Adler back for "Sherlock" season 4?

According to RadioTimes' survey, fans don't just want her to come back. They want her to get her own spinoff show, naturally with Benedict Cumberbatch still as the eccentric detective.

iDigitalTimes reported that 68% of the 4,235 people surveyed by RadioTimes wanted this spinoff to happen.

As awesome as the idea is, however, it doesn't seem quite doable for the "Sherlock" crew. Both showrunners have expressed the difficulties of merely setting up a filming schedule for the constantly busy Benedict Cumberbath and Martin Freeman.

Cumberbatch already has several movies, voice overs and stage performances lined up straight into next year.

In fact, if it weren't for the acting challenge that the show gives them, the two main stars reportedly "wouldn't come and play with us". The fact that they also "love it very much" keeps them coming back for another season.

"I didn't think we actually thought we'd get a fourth series out of them," the EP revealed about the Emmy Award-winning show's difficulty in recasting their two leads.

Nevertheless, both actors will come back for "Sherlock" season 4. Whether Lara Pulver will be showing up as Irene Adler or not is still uncertain.
