Will Eddie Redmayne’s ‘The Danish Girl’ Role Get Him Another Oscar Next Year? Actor Could Be Contending With Leonardo DiCaprio, Johnny Depp

| By

Even though he's still holding on to his Best Actor award from last February's Oscar Awards, it looks like Eddie Redmayne's "The Danish Girl" role could earn him yet another trophy in 2016.

The British actor isn't new in doing whatever it takes to make his role believable. His convincing portrayal of Dr. Stephen Hawking in "The Theory Of Everything" already proved his talent as a character actor getting him several wins from prestigious award-giving bodies.

It's not a surprise then that he also gave the same attention and treatment to his new role as a transgender woman in "The Danish Girl".

According to The Daily Mail, the 33-year-old actor was spotted filming in Copenhagen, Denmark last March in full female attire as Einar Wegener, later known as Lili Elbe. Wegener was known as the first person to undergo a sex-change operation in the 1920s. "The King's Speech" director Tom Hooper will be helming the upcoming film.

Rope Of Silicon reported that Eddie Redmayne's "The Danish Girl" role has "a certain timeliness that will generate a lot of heat come this year's awards season."

With gender equality, same-sex marriage and LGBTQ issues getting a lot of attention this year, this could definitely give the "Jupiter Ascending" actor a huge boost for a second Oscar nomination. However, can he manage to get a back-to-back win next year with big names making their comebacks?

Latin Post didn't even include Redmayne in its early predictions list. According to the article, the five possible actors to win the trophy in 2016 include Leonardo DiCaprio who's starring in Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu's "The Revenant".

Other actors on the list include Michael Caine for "Youth", Jake Gyllenhaal for "Demolition" or "Southpaw", Tom Hanks for "Bridge Of Spies" and Johnny Depp for "Black Mass".

Ropes Of Silicon also listed practically the same people although it swapped out Tom Hanks, Jake Gyllenhaal and Johnny Depp for Redmayne, Michael Fassbender ("Steve Jobs") and Tom Hiddleston ("I Saw The Light").

Do you think Eddie Redmayne's "The Danish Girl" will earn him another Academy Award nomination or win?
