As Kevin Durant becomes a free agent next season, his rumored Golden State Warriors bid, apart from his chances to enter other teams, will reportedly be at the expense of another superstar -- Klay Thompson, the Golden State Warrios' shooting guard.
This rumor even grew stronger as Kevin Durant makes his free-agent decision next July, and the season champions reportedly said it would "love" to have him on the team.
Tim Kawakami of San Jose Mercury News said the Kevin Durant is the player the Golden State Warriors "would love to be featured part of Durant discussion as a possible sign-and-trade destination."
The other side of the trade coin will reportedly involve taking away Klay Thompson from the Golden State Warriors as the Oklahoma City Thunder welcomes him.
"Any deal for Durant would likely have to involve Klay Thompson and splitting up the Splash Brothers," said website Sports World Report, referring to the Thompson-Stephen Curry tandem. "Is Durant an upgrade over Thompson for Stephen Curry, two NBA MVPs on one team certainly seems unfair."
The report however buckled and said that Klay Thompson's Golden State Warriors possible exit and being part of the Thunder will make way for the latter team to get a great talent in return.
FanSided.com said a sign-and-trade necessary to land Kevin Durant to the Golden State Warriors "would almost certainly involve" the Warriors shooting guard. The website thought this trade "isn't the worst option" and could play a huge hole in making the Warriors a dynasty.
In fact, the father of Klay Thompson reportedly heard on "good authority" that his son's team "would go hard" after Kevin Durant's possible transfer.
Kevin Durant is the 2014 NBA MVP and a six-time All-Star player. His contract is set to expire by the end of the coming season, giving him the free agent decision privileges for the 2016-17 season.
Many see this trade as a major switch up, but Kevin Durant's possible Golden State Warriors transfer is not the only card in the game.
Sports World Report said the Washington Wizards made it clear that they want to bring the Thunder play "home" next season. Not only that, the Dallas Mavericks also reportedly believe that getting DeAndre Jordan gives them a higher chance of getting Kevin Durant on board next season.
"The Mavericks have a case to get Durant, but potentially not the salary cap space," the report added. "The tea can sell him on a frontcourt of Jordan and Dirk Nowitzki while Chandler Parsons and Wesley Matthews will help the scoring attack in a lineup similar to Golden State."
Klay Thompson's Golden State Warriors performance has been impressive so far, as seen from his game stats. One of the most remarkable stunts he made was a record-breaking 52 points in 32 minutes in one game against the Sacramento Kings earlier this year.
