We're at that time of the year when Apple is expected to announce a new iPhone flagship smartphone but all we have so far are rumors and unconfirmed reports. To this end, a Chinese blog claims a September 11 iPhone 6S release date but some are saying it's unlikely.
"As per Micgadget, Apple's iPhone 6s keynote is scheduled for Friday, September 11, while the devices will land in stores one week later on Friday, September 18," Cult of Mac reported.
The Chinese blog claims to have gotten the information from Apple supplier Foxconn. Cult of Mac said the dates "[make] a certain amount of sense" but is skeptical of the blog's source.
9to5 Mac echoes Cult of Mac's concern Foxconn may be aware of iPhone designs "but it is unlikely to know the [iPhone 6s] release date any more precisely than the month, especially this early on."
"The date of the keynote will, this far out, be something known to only a limited number of Apple execs in Cupertino and is still likely to be in flux depending on a number of factors," the website added."
As for the alleged keynote date, 9to5 Mac said the Cupertino giant "is extremely unlikely to choose a Friday" as it has traditionally opted for an earlier day in the week to maximize media coverage. This, apart from its "uncomfortable" coincidence with the 9/11 terror attacks.
Last month, Franchise Herald reported that a leaked Vodafone email indicated a September 25 release date for Apple's next-gen flagship smartphone.
Meanwhile, alleged schematics of the new iPhone have surfaced online. Check it out courtesy of Mac Rumors:
"The schematic, obtained by a Chinese supply chain source for Engadget Japan, indicates a thickness of 7.1 millimeters - only 0.2 millimeters bigger than the iPhone 6," Apple Insider wrote.
According to the website, this supports claims of a Force Touch-enabled display made by KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. The slight thickness is the result of addition of the technology which was confirmed by a Bloomberg report.
The iPhone 6s release date is expected sometime in the fall, along with the 6s Plus and iOS 9. Rumored specs include a 12MP camera, 2GB of RAM, stronger chassis and an updated front-facing camera.
