Nene Leakes Reveals Reason Why She Left 'Real Housewives Of Atlanta' Show! 'Glee' Star To Work On A New Primetime Series With 'Big Legend' Actor

"Real Housewives of Atlanta" has lost an original member.

Nene Leakes, who has been with the Bravo reality show for six long seasons has finally announced that she will not be returning for season 7.

The 47-year-old reality star who also appeared on "Glee" and "Dancing with the Stars" exclusively told PEOPLE the news.

"This was definitely a hard decision for me," Leakes told the publication. "Me and my husband [Gregg Leakes] have been going back and forth on it for weeks now. But my contract is up and I just think this is the right time. This is my opportunity to spread my wings and do different things."

And while some of her fans have already anticipated that this would happen, most are curious as to why she would leave "Real Housewives of Atlanta."

Apparently, Leakes is going to be busy working on a new primetime series with a "big legend" actor.

"I'm actually going to be doing a new primetime television show with a big legend," Leakes teased of her new show that will start production this week. "All of my fans will get to see me be really happy, witty and funny and tell all of those one liners that I always have said on Housewives."

And while she did not mention further details about her upcoming show, fans immediately speculated that it could be a comedy show based on her statement.

Based on her statement, fans also began to assume that she's already staying away from big drama shows and that her new series would most likely be a comedy.

"I feel a weight has been lifted off of my shoulders," Leakes said of her exit

"There were times when I was a target," she says. "I won't miss the negativity."

And her exit will not be complete without being controversial. Apparently, Nene Leakes exit would make some of her "Real Housewives of Atlanta" co-stars happy, making this moment their time to shine.

"I think some of the girls will be happy," Leakes explained. "They always felt like I was the star, and they were never able to really shine with me there, so here's their opportunity to shine."

And while she confirmed that she is not returning for season 7, Leakes reminded her co-stars not to be too happy and comfortable because she might still return as a guest star for some episodes.

"I'm not saying I'm gone forever," Leakes teased. "I'll probably pop up and play with those girls every now and then."
