There is probably no way that Channing Tatum would return to the repoted upcoming "G.I. Joe 3," following his statement of the franchise.
In an interview with Howard Stern as reported by The Sydney Morning Herald, the 35-year-old Hollywood hunk admitted that he did not starring on "G.I. Joe: Rise of the Cobra."
Apparently, Tatum was just forced by Paramount Pictures to star on the movie as Duke.
"Look, I'll be honest. I f***ing hate that movie," he admitted in "Howard Stern" radio show. "I didn't want to do something that was 1) bad and 2) I didn't know if I wanted to be G.I. Joe."
The film was made during the wake of Writers Guild of America strike during 2007 and 2008. While he apparently thinks that the movie was not great at all, it grossed over $302 million worldwide.
"The script wasn't any good," the actor added.
Tatum has however admitted that playing Duke in "G.I. Joe: Rise of the Cobra" had helped him with his career.
"I could have been given 'Scream 5' or something...I'm super lucky and blessed to have been given that film," he admitted.
And while Tatum is most likely no longer returning to the franchise, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson is reportedly going to take over "G.I. Joe 3."
"The baton was passed and Roadblock became 'the man' when it comes to the G.I. Joe team," Cinema Blend claimed. "Which was contrary to the canon of the classic 1980's A Real American Hero cartoons and comic books.
It added, "Thus, the G.I. Joe film franchise, for all intents and purposes, is now a Dwayne Johnson franchise."
Franchise producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura confirmed the speculations in his previous interview with Screen Rant.
"The last movie was really the set up, in a way, for Roadblock to take over," di Bonaventura explained. "Dwayne came aboard a little late last time so we weren't able to do everything I think we can do this time, and really get a story that services what the audience expects out of him, and also as an actor pushes him into areas that you wouldn't normally explore in a big franchise movie perhaps."
In addition to confirmation that Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson will take over "G.I. Joe 3" franchise, the movie is reportedly going to have some major storyline updates.
"The hardest thing in film, I think, is to reduce something to something simple," he said. "You want it to be smart, you want it to have all this complexity, you want to do all these things which sometimes makes it all so confusing. (...) This time we have a very clear, very defined, tight idea that I wish I had on every sequel I've ever worked on. Simple's the hardest to get to."
