Justin Bieber, still reeling from the recent break up with his girlfriends Selena Gomez, was named favorite artist of the year on Sunday at the American Music Awards and took three awards in total.
The 18-year-old teen idol pulled his mother, Pattie Malette, onstage to help him accept the award. "This is my mom," he said. "She's little, but she's beautiful."
"This is for all the haters who thought I'd be here for only one or two years," Justin Bieber declared as he clutched his win for favorite pop/rock male artist. "But I think I'm gonna be for a long time."
Bieber also won the best pop/rock male artist and pop/rock album for ''Believe."
He gave a stripped down, acoustic performance of As Long As You Love Me, then transitioned to the dance-heavy Beauty and a Beat, where Nicki Minaj joined him onstage.
Other performers included Kelly Clarkson, Pink, Usher, Taylor Swift and Carrie Underwood.
Stevie Wonder paid tribute to the, Dick Clark,a well known radio and television personality who established the American Music Awards back in 1973. Clark passed away on April 18, 2012 after suffering a heart attack at the age of 82.
