Neil Gaiman Wants Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson To Become Part Of 'American Gods' TV Series Cast

| By

Bryan Fuller said last May "American Gods" TV series cast will be introduced at the San Diego Comic-Con. The upcoming Starz TV series based on Neil Gaiman's novel of the same name is still in early productions. The novel parades a diverse list of characters since it deals with modern mythology.

If Neil Gaiman has his way, he already has a target for one of the main characters. The English author said bankable actor Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson is someone he deems perfect for Shadow Moon.

"Shadow is of mixed race and I wanted to find an actor who has that thing going," the "American Gods" author told the crow during the Edinburgh Book Festival.

"An actor who turned up after American Gods was written and, if he hadn't have become huge would have been perfect, was Dwayne 'the Rock' Johnson because he has this huge bulk, and doesn't look terribly smart - which is one of the fun things about Shadow: he's smarter than people assume."

It is hard to quantify the chances of landing Dwayne 'the Rock' Johnson in "American Gods" TV series cast right now as he currently stars in his own HBO TV show "Ballers." He is also tied to another comic book movie adaptation "Shazam" where he is expected to play Black Adam.

In previous interviews, Neil Gaiman said he wants to keep "American Gods" TV series cast diverse.

"I want to keep races and nationalities. I don't want it to become softened and homogenised, and I want it to be prickly," he told the Edinburgh audience."

The San Diego Comic-Con will take place this month and fans of the Neil Gaiman novel should keep their fingers crossed that Starz will announce the "American Gods" TV series cast.

"That's his plan. He's saying 'I don't want to make any casting announcements, I want to announce the cast in full when they walk out on stage at a Comic-Con.," Fuller said last month.
