Colombian beauty Paulina Vega, the current Miss Universe titleholder, is among the personalities who recently joined the bandwagon in criticizing Donald Trump for his statements against some Mexicans. But she is also among the very few whom Trump lashed out in a reply seen by the public, and called her a "hypocrite."
"Miss Universe, Paulina Vega, criticized me for telling the truth about illegal immigration, but then said she would keep the crown - Hypocrite," Donald Trump posted on Twitter.
Paulina Vega, who won the Miss Universe crown last January, previously posted her reaction on Trump's anti-Mexican remarks and said his comments were "unjust and hurtful."
"I strongly believe that dividing and categorizing humankind only holds it back. Acknowledging and embracing the differences that exist across humanity is the first step in real and substantial development," Paulina Vega wrote on her official Instagram account, attaching a photo of her Miss Universe sash.
The Colombian beauty queen was referring to the remarks made by Donald Trump in his campaign launch last month, saying that some Mexicans are drug dealers, rapists and criminals.
Because of this criticism by Paulina Vega to Miss Universe owner Donald Trump, is she going to lose her crown? Pageant enthusiasts believe that dethronement might be the next course.
A Facebook user named Lexter Tsu posted a comment on a group thread, "[The Miss Universe Organization] should remove Donald Trump. Miss Universe is coming too commercialized and the true essence of the pageant is gradually fading."
Meanwhile, another pageant enthusiast RJ Lanzona said on Facebook that this is bound to happen, but hoped that Paulina Vega will not be dethroned of her Miss Universe title.
For others such as Facebook user Stefano Gabriel, this "hypocrite" remark by Donald Trump might have a "domino effect" that will affect other delegates as well.
When a Latina is called "hypocrite" or "hipócrita" in the local Spanish language, the impact is both heavy and something to be shrugged off according to a typical Latina woman.
"Being called hipócrita is something I hear on a daily [basis]. From my mother, she tends to call me a hipócrita because I do not side next to her at times," said Banesa Hernandez, a Mexican-Colombian student studying in New York. "I guess when it comes to something that Trump has said about Paulina Vega, it becomes more serious."
Hernandez believed that everyone has a different opinion of what "hypocrite" means and for me, it is something she would just shrug off.
"I don't pay much attention to insults. To others, it means a lot and go crazy," she added. "Every country has a different meaning to everything."
