When the rumors broke out that a "Princess Diaries" sequel is reportedly in the works, fans became excited of the upcoming story. The anticipation even heated up when Heather Matarazzo, the actor who played Anne Hathaway's best friend in the previous two movies, reportedly tweeted a link to "Princess Diaries 3."
But Disney has already spoken up and said it is not making a "Princess Diaries" sequel.
The Huffington Post reported that a source close to Disney confirmed the company is not in talks to produce a "Princess Diaries" sequel.
Franchise Herald earlier reported that the plot of the "Princess Diaries" sequel is being kept in secret, citing sources that the installment may or may not include Anne Hathaway despite the intention to work on a reboot of the series.
The report said Debra Chase of Martin Chase Products was to produce the "Princess Diaries" sequel with Charles Pugliese reportedly overseeing for Chase. The possible movie was reportedly set to be released in 2017.
Some media outfits, however, are still positive that this is not the end of the excitement because of the author's myriad of installments.
"Still, it remains to be seen in order to conclude that there will be a 'The Princess Diaries 3.' If ever there won't be, what fans could do now is hope that things will still change. Who knows, a fairy godmother might just grant their wish," a report by Venture Capital Post said.
The Huffington Post also said there are various possibilities for more of Mia Thermopolis-like stories since the book series by Meg Cabot has many material to borrow from.
There are nine other volumes of the "Princess Diaries" book series, and many other half volumes. The author just released "The Princess Diaries, Volume XI: Royal Wedding," the first adult installment of the series, the report added.
