Star Trek Footage to Be Shown Dec. 14 at ‘The Hobbit’ Premiere

"Star Trek Into Darkness" footage will be shown the premiere of "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey" at the Dec. 14 premiere, Paramount Pictures announced Wednesday.

Nine minute long footage of the new J.J. Abrams' Star Trek movie will be show before screenings of Peter Jackson's The Hobbit at IMAX theaters.

Abrams shot several sequences of the sequel to his 2009 hit using IMAX's large-format cameras, following in the footsteps of Nolan's IMAX sequences in The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises, and Brad Bird's IMAX work on Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol.

"Star Trek Into Darkness," written by "Lost" alumni Damon Lindelof, Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci, is set to be released May 17, 2013, after four years of speculation and hype from eager fans.

Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto will reprise their respective roles as James T. Kirk and Spock. Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, Anton Yelchin, Simon Pegg, John Cho and Bruce Greenwood are also returning.

"Our longtime partners J.J. Abrams, Bryan Burk and the Bad Robot team have really hit it out of the park - the footage is absolutely incredible ... Their use of the IMAX Camera and canvas is sure to impress current and future Star Trek fans alike ... and we're thrilled to once again work with our friends at Paramount Pictures to offer this extended 'first look' at this highly anticipated summer blockbuster," said Greg Foster, IMAX Film Entertainment president said.
