Just weeks before its August premiere, we still don't know much about "The Walking Dead" spinoff. Details come in at a slow pace that your average zombie moves about a post-apocalyptic wasteland. But showrunner Dave Erickson did spill a "Fear The Walking Dead" plot point.
Erickson spoke with Entertainment Weekly and described the spinoff as "a family drama." Because it is set before the outbreak began, it gave him and executive producer Robert Kirkman the chance to lay down the show's plot.
"And what that allowed us to do in the pilot and season 1 is establish our core family, establish the problems and the conflicts that they have, and really let that be the initial world that we live in."
A family drama isn't exactly groundbreaking but setting it against the onset of a zombie apocalypse does add layers to the "Fear The Walking Dead" plot. How would members of a dysfunctional family fair in a world being overtaken by flesh-eating reanimated corpses?
"And we layer in the onset of the apocalypse, we layer in our first walkers, but it's really an effort to exacerbate the problems that already exist with Kim Dickens' character [widowed guidance counselor Madison] and Cliff Curtis' character [her boyfriend Travis] and their sort of dysfunctional blended family. It's really filtering the apocalypse through that."
AMC has released a few teasers for the upcoming show but with San Diego Comic-Con 2015 around the corner, expect a few more details to be unveiled. For the meantime, AMC has released a poster for the show.
The poster features Santa Monica beach and its famous pier with a tagline that reads, "Fear Begins Here." It seems to foretell the upcoming zombie apocalypse with a sign from a flesh-eating menace.
"A single set of footprints follows the shoreline toward the pier. The left foot makes a distinct print, but the right foot drags badly - it's the kind of shambling gait that is a hallmark of a walker," The Wall Street Journal said.
"Fear The Walking Dead" plot is set on the outbreak of the zombie apocalypse and before the events of "The Walking Dead" main series. The spinoff is scheduled to premiere in August at an unspecified date.
