'Orphan Black' Season 3 Finale's Mysterious Worm To Have Expanded Role In Fourth Season?

| By

Lost in the conversations about the "Orphan Black" season 3 finale is the worm-like creature that came out of Doctor Nealon's mouth. Of course, it will be the happy quasi-endings that will standout.

Alison (Tatiana Maslany) won the election, Cosima and Delphine shared a kiss again after being away from each other the whole season, and Sara reunited with her daughter Kira.

It was the first time this worm surfaced in the show and it definitely creeps out the audience. For next season, watch out because there might have more worms to appear on "Orphan Black."

Talking to the Hollywood Reporter shortly after the "Orphan Black" season 3 finale, series co-creator Graeme Manson confirmed the questions behind the worm-like creature will be answered in the fourth season of the show.

"It's been part of our unfolding science, and unfolding bio-horror aspect. And bio-tech. Those elements are something we're really interested in. Like [the finale] said, "The science is far beyond what you could imagine," he said.

In a separate interview with Entertainment Weekly, Manson's co-creator John Fawcett said the worm weapon is a mystery they intentionally left in "Orphan Black" season 3 finale hanging.

"Well, I know, but it's good to have something sick and gross," Fawcett said. "What's kind of shocking about it, which I thought was fun, is that this goes from Neolution are the bad guys, to the reveal that Nealon is part of Neolution, to suddenly he's on top and he's strangling you and there's something creepy coming out of his mouth-there's blood, there's this wormlike creature and he's trying to force him into Delphine's mouth. I love leaving that mystery hanging in season 3."

As for what to expect in the fourth season, there is no concrete plan yet aside from what transpired in "Orphan Black" season 3 finale. Maslany said there is a lot of possibilities.

"I feel like there are a lot of possibilities Maslany told Deadline.

"And again, plot, to me, is really foreign and doesn't really mean much. But in terms of the characters growing and changing, I think that they've grown up so much in the past three seasons, and I think that if we continue to change them and challenge them, that's all I'm interested in really."
