Asus ZenWatch 2 Specs, Release Date, Pricing To Be Announced In September; Upcoming Taiwanese Smarwatch Previewed At Computex 2015! [Video]

Just six months after the original was launched, a successor to the original ZenWatch has already been revealed at last month's Computex 2015. A few details on the Asus ZenWatch 2 specs were shared by the Taiwanese tech company during the said event.

"Like the Apple Watch, the ZenWatch 2 has a metal crown, which gives you 'a new way to interact' with the Android Wear interface," The Verge wrote.

Unlike Cupertino's smartwatch however, the ZenWatch 2's metal crown merely functions as a power button.

Asus' smartwatch is also the first Android Wear device to be offered in two sizes. Choices include a 49mm-tall stainless steel case and a smaller 45mm-tall case. By comparison, the Apple Watch also comes in two sizes, 42mm and 38mm.

Color options reportedly include rose gold, silver and gunmetal. These can be color matched with a stainless steel strap although brightly-colored rubber straps are available as well. Buyers can also pick a leather option including one accented by Swarovski crystals.

"Asus offers a total of 18 different combinations of materials and colors for the Zenwatch 2."

Among other Asus ZenWatch 2 specs are a magnetic charging connector for faster charging and Gorilla Glass 3 which protects the smartwatch's AMOLED display. Unlike the Samsung Gear A smartwatch or Motorola's Moto 360, TechRadar said the new ZenWatch will retain its square display.

As far as software is concerned, Asus said the ZenWatch's software experience has been updated, according to The Verge. The new Watch Face Land app allows users to "create [their] own custom watch faces." The Remote Camera app now puts the smartphone's viewfinder on the watch with the ability to switch between front and rear shooters and even zoom in and out.

Apart from these revelations, Asus has kept other details under wraps. More Asus ZenWatch 2 specs, as well as pricing are expected to be revealed at IFA 2015 to be held in September.
