"The Flash" season 2 release date has been set. The sophomore run of the hit CW Network superhero series will return on October 6 and will pick up shortly from where it left off in first season's finale.
As fans can recall from the last episode, Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) lost a friend to the havoc caused by Reverse Flash (Tom Cavanagh). Eddie Thawne (Rick Cosnett) sacrificed his life to stop Reverse Flash therefore, Iris West (Candice Patton) will need the presence of Barry more than ever.
For the fans of the Barry-Iris ship, don't expect too much from this romance though in "The Flash" season 2. As per Gustin himself, the two will not fall for each other instantly as it will take time for Iris to get over the death of Eddie and Barry will respect it.
What the main character will get though is a new woman with a Felicity-like personality and abilities. Fans know that Felicity from Arrow had some kind of romance with Barry Allen when she visited him in Starling City.
"[Eddie's death] is definitely a factor, for sure," Grant Gustin said according to a report by TV Line. He did not indicate though whether this new character will appear right on "The Flash" season 2 release.
"Barry wants to be there for Iris as her best friend right now. And for Barry, too. It's too soon for everybody. Some tragic events just took place!" Interestingly, exec producer Geoff Johns added that the aforementioned (and yet-to-be-cast) CCPD noob Wendy Miller won't be the only one shaking up the status quo when the CW hit returns. "There are a lot of new characters coming in, not just the ones that have been leaked online," he teased. "And they all will challenge relationships, in good and bad ways."
Aside from a new computer geek character, another one to expect when "The Flash" season 2 release date comes are the new villains, particularly a new big bad. Gustin told Collider they will be "introducing a really cool 'Big Bad' that's going to be revealed kind of immediately."
