The recent issues surrounding Republican presidential candidate and pageant owner Donald Trump, and the Miss Universe Organization have also affected the Miss USA fans, urging them to make online petitions for the NBC broadcast to push through.
Using the petition creator website Change.org, Miss USA fans put up a number of online petition letters to NBC to air the broadcast of the 2015 pageant after the network announced it is not airing the pageant because of Trump's scathing comments against some Mexican immigrants.
"Nobody ignorance or intolerant remarks should come between these 51 contestants and the once-in-a-lifetime chance to become part of a rich sisterhood of women who are uniquely and confidently beautiful, each in their own way," one online petition said.
This petition has already gathered more than 5,000 supporters as of press time, and continues to get the attention of Miss USA fans who want to watch the pageant live on television like before.
A report by website Deadline.com said the Miss USA fans can instead watch the pageant via the Miss USA official website, according to a representative for the Miss USA pageant. The report also cited the source saying more information will be announced soon, such as details on the new hosts after earlier confirmed hosts Thomas Roberts and Cheryl Burke reportedly confirmed they are backing out from the show.
With this new update, another version of the online petition of the Miss USA fans said this live streaming does not mean the gathering of signatures will stop, and they will continue to gather as many signatures as possible.
"These women have worked very hard to have their moment on the Miss USA stage and have been dreaming this for years," one of the petitions pointed out. "I am sure it is devastating for the contestants that their friends and family will not be able to see them compete!"
Miss USA fans also expressed their disappointment over hosts and judges reportedly backing out from the show, saying that "they are barking are the wrong tree."
One Facebook user posted a comment, "From [the] 1950s, Miss USA is not about Trump. It's about celebrating women and diversity. Why lash out at Miss USA and let the pageant suffer? These backing out are equivalent to leaving women hanging."
