JK Rowling Insists ‘Harry Potter And The Cursed Child’ Play Is NOT A Prequel! Will It Be Brought To Other Countries?

| By

When bestselling author JK Rowling confirmed "Harry Potter And The Cursed Child" will be playing at the London West End next year, she clarified that it won't be a prequel.

Despite the play focusing on the untold story of the iconic character's life, including his parents' story, Rowling still maintained that it will not be a prequel of the seven books she previously wrote. Nevertheless, various fans and media reports branded the story as a prequel considering the circumstances.

The "Casual Vacancy" author wasn't happy about the repetitive questions about the supposed "prequel". She painstakingly replied to various fans on Twitter over the weekend to correct their confusion.

She did confirm that "Cursed Child" should be "considered canon", even though she didn't write the script herself.

"The story of #CursedChild should be considered canon, though. @jackthorne, John Tiffany (the director) and I developed it together," she tweeted.

However, some fans refused to accept it as such, believing it to be so only if Rowling wrote it herself.

"I refuse to accept it as canon until I know what it's about. Even then, I'm leaning more towards book-only canon," one fan wrote on the microblogging site, adding "If Jo didn't write it, I find it hard to consider it canonical."

Another fans wished to separate the books from the films and JK Rowling's upcoming "Harry Potter And The Cursed Child" play.

"[Not] book canon certainly!!!! This would have its own separate canon like the films have their own canon," he posted.

The canon debate aside, other avid Potterheads merely wanted to know if the play would either be recorded for international fans or brought to other countries after its run at the London West End.

"Is there any possibility of the play coming to the US, for those of us who cannot make out way to London?" one excited fan asked the author on Twitter.

Another follower added, "Will the play be turned into a book eventually or brought to other countries? @jk_rowling either way,I'll go all the way to London for Harry."

JK Rowling confirmed the "Harry Potter And The Cursed Child" play last week to the delight of Potterheads around the world.
