"Batman: Arkham Knight," along with the other games in the series, is among those games where players are spending so much time focusing on the story - and anticipating the ending - apart from just finishing the game.
One ending seemingly showed Batman as the new fear of Gotham according to a player who reportedly has "beaten" the game and a YouTube video that shows it. Is he the next Scarecrow?
"I recently just beat 'Arkham Knight' and by 'beat,' I really do mean beat," Forbes contributor Paul Tassi said in his report. "That's at least my definition of doing everything in an Arkham game except finding 200+ Riddler trophies, and in this case that's taking down every watchtower, blowing up every mind, and catching every one of Gotham's rogues in and out of the main storyline."
Tassi explained that "Batman: Arkham Knight" has a three-stage ending and it will depend on how far you have gone to finishing the game in terms of beating down every villain, and completing the game 100 percent.
"It's a three stage ending, meaning everyone has the same one, but you'll only unlock different pieces of it if you complete enough of the game," Tassi noted in his report.
He said the first ending of "Batman: Arkham Knight" is a twisted version of the "Under The Red Hood." Adopting this with the game, he said Joker will reveal that he simply brainwashed Todd and didn't kill him, which made him just want to see Batman suffer and die.
"In their climactic battle, Batman rips off his faux-bat mask to reveal a sub-helmet that looks quite a bit like the Red Hood mask," Tassi said. "Batman convinces Todd he can be redeemed, and he intervenes to help later in the game after Scarecrow unmasks Batman as Bruce Wayne for the world to see."
Now comes the best - and probably the most controversial part - where Batman uses the so-called "Knightfall Protocol," and dies. This protocol is said to be done after getting rid of Gotham's most wanted criminals.
The "Knightfall Protocol" ending reportedly available after completing the game entirely shows Batman landing on the Batwing's lawn, walks inside as Alfred greets him, and the entire area explodes. This is perhaps in reference to Jim Gordon's voiceover "And this is how the Batman died" heard at the start of the game.
But there's what seemed like an epilogue to the game as noted by Tassi. Batman returns and tries to save a victim of robbery, appears above the criminals with his cape spread in a fiery and scary manner, and raises fear.
"Either Wayne returned as Batman and the robbers were simply seeing manifestations of their own fears of the caped crusader, or someone, either Wayne or a new player, is actually using Scarecrow fear toxin to control the criminal population," Tassi said. "A worrying thought."
