First announced at this year's Mobile World Congress held last March, the Sony Xperia M4 Aqua has proven to be one of the most anticipated smartphones from the Japanese tech firm. It has been featured in a hygiene awareness campaign which showcased its waterproof certification. But it has not always been smooth sailing for the mid-range handset.
A few weeks ago, Franchise Herald reported that the M4 Aqua's 8GB version only has 1.26GB of free storage. This was far from the claimed 3GB of available space. Since then, Sony has not commented on the problem - until now.
"To provide a bit more clarity to users, Sony Mobile has updated the Xperia M4 Aqua white paper, now telling people that the 3GB of user available storage is 'before you update preloaded applications,'" Xperia Blog wrote.
But what about the 16GB version of the Sony Xperia M4 Aqua?
"This is the same for the 16GB model of the Xperia M4 Aqua in which it will have 11GB out of the box, but only before it has updated the preloaded applications after which it will have less," Übergizmo wrote.
There's still no option to remove those apps altogether and Übergizmo suggests getting an external microSD card or flashing another ROM that takes less space.
Meanwhile, another Canadian carrier has recently added the mid-range Japanese smartphone in the list of devices they offer. According to Android Headlines, the M4 Aqua was quietly introduced by WIND Mobile.
As per the carrier's website, interested parties can purchase the 16GB model of the handset for $299 outright. It can also be bought via WINDtab for $149. Other payment options include a WINDtab Boost plan for $49 and $5 per month and $0 and $15 per month. It appears that black is the only color option at this time.
The Sony Xperia M4 Aqua first made its way to Canada via Videotron. Bell and Virgin Mobile followed soon after.
