A Floyd Mayweather Jr - Oscar De La Hoya fight rematch got the boxing world abuzzed. Not only because these two are future legends in the sport but also because it is seven years late.
The two first fought each other in 2007 where Floyd came out as the victor via split decision. It was Pretty Boy who first challenged the Golden Boy in an interview. Oscar declined the challenge but seems to have changed his mind a few days ago when he said he is mulling ring comeback.
While many are skeptic about the Floyd Mayweather Jr - Oscar De La Hoya fight rematch, Manny Pacquiao, who fought both boxers, think the latter should give it a go if he feels he is still hungry for a win.
"It depends on him, if there's nothing wrong with him, if he's healthy, he can go," Pacquiao told Philippine publication INQUIRER.net Wednesday night. "He can still do it if he still has that hunger in him as a boxer."
Oscar De La Hoya previously declined Mayweather's challenge via his own Instagram account. There, he said he is contented being retired. He even brought up the time when Floyd violated their rematch clause in 2007.
"So I hear Floyd wants to give me a rematch now. Our first fight had a rematch clause, it had to take place within the year. (And then) He retired a year in one day. Look, I'm retired, I'm happy. I'm content. I'm never coming back."
A few days after that, the Olympic gold medalist released a statement that is completely the opposite of his previous comments about Mayweather's challenge. Floyd Mayweather Jr - Oscar De La Hoya fight rematch now sound more possible.
"I feel amazing," De La Hoya said in an interview with ESPN. "In my life right now, I have so much motivation. I am so hungry and so determined. I am young, I am healthy and I feel great... 42 is the new 32."
"I just feel good and when I walk the streets, everyone tells me, 'You have to fight Floyd again, you have to fight GGG. You can do it, you can do it'," De La Hoya said.
"I just feel great physically. I've been taking care of myself. I've been doing the Bernard Hopkins lifestyle. You can turn the clock back to a certain time."
