"Kong: Skull Island" movie is definitely going to happen.
Legendary Pictures has already set a release date for the "King Kong" prequel and while the giant studio company has been really quiet about the progress of the film it's been said that they are preparing something big that will equal if not surpass a "Marvel-like Universe" dedicated Kaijus.
The plot synopsis to "Kong: Skull Island" movie has also been revealed, read below:
"In the spirit of its worldwide blockbuster Godzilla, Legendary Pictures presents a bold new take on the mythos of another iconic beast with Kong: Skull Island, which stars Tom Hiddleston (The Avengers and Thor series).
Directed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts (The Kings of Summer) and written by John Gatins (Flight) and Max Borenstein (Godzilla), "Kong: Skull Island" will fully immerse audiences in the mysterious and dangerous home of the king of the apes as a team of explorers ventures deep inside the treacherous, primordial island. Legendary's story honors the foundations of existing King Kong lore, but places it in an entirely new, distinct timeline.
Thomas Tull (Godzilla, The Dark Knight, Pacific Rim) and Jon Jashni (Godzilla, Warcraft) will produce and Alex Garcia (Godzilla) will executive produce. The film will be released in 3D and IMAX 3D by Universal Pictures."
Starring in the highly anticipated movie about the origin of King Kong will be "Crimson Peak" star Tom Hiddleston.
In a previous interview with Red Carpet News TV, the 34-year-old British actor has confirmed his involvement in the said film promising that "Kong: Skull Island" movie will let fans see "ambitious and epic and fresh" new story of King Kong.
"Well really it was [director] Jordan Vogt-Roberts has such an extraordinary vision," he said when asked what made him decide to accept the project in an interview with Red Carpet News TV.
"Crimson Peak" star Tom Hiddleston continued,
"His story which I know he hasn't revealed to anyone yet is 'King Kong' you've never seen before, and it's very ambitious and epic and fresh and new in his vision and design and the characters are amazing. The chance to work with legendary again, who made 'Crimson Peak,' and I love what they did with 'Godzilla,' there are number of things, but it's more of working with Jordan particularly, his idea is amazing and the story and the script and the studio so yeah, it's a very easy yes."
In addition to what "Crimson Peak" star Tom Hiddleston had said, J.K Simmons revealed the time line for the movie.
According to Simmons "Kong: Skull Island" will actually take place in Detroit during the 1970s despite it being a prequel to the Kaiju who died in the 1930s.
"When it first came to my attention, 'There's interest in you for a new King Kong,' I thought, 'Okay, why?" He said according to Movie Pilot.
"I met with Jordan Vogt-Roberts who's going to be directing it, and John Gatins who's gonna be writing, and Tom [Hiddleston]-Jordan was just so passionate and so smart and there's such an interesting new take on it, and it's set in Detroit in 1971 which is where I grew up, and we're gonna shoot in Detroit during baseball season and I'll be able to go to Tigers games, so there's a lot to like about this movie."
"Kong: Skull Island" movie release date is set on March 7, 2017.
