Fannibals mourned after learning "Hannibal" season 3 will be the last they will see of Lecter and Will Graham.
A few days ago, NBC announced they will continue the horror TV series developed by Bryan Fuller. The show, which has received great reviewed throughout its two-season run, was axed because of its low ratings, reports say.
In its first two episodes for "Hannibal" season 3, it suffered mainly because it airs the same time as the NBA finals. "Hannibal" may be spending its last few weeks in NBC but Fuller, based on his statements, there is still a ray of hope as the show is attracting interest from other networks. Plus, if a "Hannibal" season 4 does not happen, how about a movie?
Talking to Deadline in the wake of Hannibal's cancellation, Fuller said he is not closing his doors on a return to big screen of the famous cannibal after "Hannibal" season 3 in NBC. He also hopes he can bring in the same cast members.
"Obviously there is something appealing about seeing a full circle back to the big screen with this cast," he said when asked what would be the silver lining of Hannibal getting canceled unexpectedly.
"So I can't deny that that would be the most awesome of results from this cancellation Hannibal - Season 3 - hugh dancyon NBC. At least for me, because it feels like a big-screen show in the way we produce it and the way it is formalistically designed. And having someone like David Slade direct a Hannibal film with Mads Mikkelson and Hugh Dancy is incredibly exciting."
Fuller added though working on a "Hannibal" movie means more work and flexibility on the storyline.
"But also in order to do that I would have to condense a lot of story so once again with the Hannibal mythos, as we've been exploring, a little bit more real estate gives us the opportunity to be a little bit more funky in our narrative."
Fuller also considers a mini-movie after "Hannibal" season 3.
"Almost like a mini-movie trilogy. That could be exciting as well. There's an opportunity in whatever format we could end up on to look at adapting the story telling of this series to accommodate that service in a new way."
A movie or extension of "Hannibal" season 3, which sounds better?
