Throughout the Miss USA pageant over the years, there have been contestants who are successful businesswomen, wrestlers, taekwondo masters and more. But it seemed to be a first for pageant fans to hear the story of Miss Ohio USA 2015 Sarah Newkirk as someone who grew up without watching television.
Twenty-five-year-old Sarah Newkirk was homeschooled and did not experience watching television - even some cartoons - until she was in ninth grade, the official website of Miss USA 2015 said.
But guess what, this woman who is set to represent Miss Ohio USA 2015 in the upcoming national pageant this July now works as a lithotripsy technician helping patients by removing kidney stones during surgery. The website also said she aspires to go on with her career in the healthcare industry by administering a cancer treatment facility after she earns her Master's Degree in Health Care administration.
For those who are eyeing success for your children, you might want to consider taking the TV out from home just like what Miss Ohio USA 2015 grew up with.
Newkirk reportedly grew up in southern Ohio and this made her love the outdoors, enjoying the art of hunting and fishing. She currently lives in Columbus, Ohio.
Beyond her full-time job in the healthcare industry, she spends time as a volunteer for organizations Pink Ribbon Girls and Relay for life, organizations that work together to raise funds for cancer research, the Miss USA website said.
Shooting, archery, line dancing and reading are among her other hobbies. Apart from being a cancer advocate, the website further noted that she is also a spokeswoman for breast and ovarian cancer, as well as an advocate for gun safety.
Watch Miss Ohio USA 2015 compete at this year's Miss USA pageant which will be held for the second consecutive time in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Newkirk will compete with 50 other contestants from the rest of the states including the District of Columbia.
