Diane Sawyer's Election Night sparked a flurry of Twitter jokes Tuesday night, leaving viewers wondering if Sawyer was drunk during the live election coverage.
Social media was quick to poke fun at Sawyer's out-of-character performance, speculating she was "tipsy" or on prescription painkillers.
Diane Sawyer's voice is usually poised and leveled, but during last night's live coverage, it got a little loud and a little slow, and her seeming fixation on the network's patented results music. She also stumbled over her words a bit, calling President Obama "Barack Orama" for a second.
"Diane's been up for days and she's had many sleepless nights. She was covering the hurricane and then preparing for the election broadcast. If you knew Diane you'd realize she's one of the hardest working people on television. She likes to cram things in, she likes to have every fact at her finger tips...and I think that came at the expense of the broadcast," a source told the Daily Mail.
Meanwhile, reps for ABC say she was simply extremely tired, which accounted for her propping herself up on her hands against the desk at varying points during the broadcast.
Diane Sawyer has not cleared up the rumors by giving any formal response till now.
