California Proposition Results: See Full List of Prop Results

California Proposition results are in following the Nov. 6 general election which saw President Barack Obama win a second re-election, defeating Republican Governor Mitt Romney.

When Californians went to vote yesterday, they faced many propositions to consider. There were a total of 10 new California propositions and the results are in and some closely watched ones, like Prop 37 which would call for the mandatory labeling of GMO's on food labels, was not passed. The death penalty was not passed, while an increase in taxes to fund education was passed. Four out of the 10 propositions were passed.

Below is a breakdown of the California Proposition results:

Proposition 30: Temporary Taxes to Fund Education

Proposition 30 will temporarily raise the sales tax by a quarter cent while increasing personal taxes over a seven-year period for Californians making more than $250,000. The money raised would be used primarily to fund education programs in California.

Proposition 31 is designed to establish a two-year state budget process and allow local governments to decide how state-funded programs are administered and create plans for providing services to the public, according to the Voter Information Guide.

Proposition 32: Political Contributions by Payroll Deduction

Proposition 32 would ban unions from using money deducted from paychecks for political purposes. It would also prevent government contractors and corporations from directly contributing to political candidates or their committees.

Proposition 33: Auto Insurance Prices Based on Driver History

Proposition 33 would allow consumers who have been with a car insurance company for five years to switch insurance companies while keeping "loyalty discounts." Allows proportional discount for drivers with some prior coverage

Proposition 34: Death Penalty

Proposition 34 would repeals death penalty and replaces it with life imprisonment without possibility of parole. Applies retroactively to existing death sentences. Directs $100 million to law enforcement agencies for investigations of homicide and rape cases.

Proposition 35: Human Trafficking

Proposition 32 will increases prison sentences and fines for human trafficking convictions. Requires convicted human traffickers to register as sex offenders. Requires registered sex offenders to disclose Internet activities and identities.

Proposition 36: Three Strikes Law

Proposition 36 will impose life sentence only when new felony conviction is serious or violent. May authorize re-sentencing if third strike conviction was not serious or violent.

Proposition 37: Genetically Engineered Foods Labeling

Proposition 37 would require labeling of food sold to consumers made from plants or animals with genetic material changed in specified ways. Prohibits marketing such food, or other processed food, as "natural."

Proposition 38: Tax for Education. Early Childhood Programs

Proposition 38 would increase taxes on earnings using sliding scale, for twelve years. Revenues go to K-12 schools and early childhood programs, and for four years to repaying state debt.

Proposition 39: Business Tax for Energy Funding

Proposition 32 Requires multistate businesses to pay income taxes based on percentage of their sales in California. Dedicates revenues for five years to clean/efficient energy projects.

Proposition 40: Redistricting State Senate

Proposition 40 makes new State Senate districts drawn by the Citizens Redistricting Commission. If rejected, districts will be adjusted by officials supervised by the California Supreme Court.
