Bryan Fuller's ambitions for "Hannibal" are high. Before "Hannibal" season 3 premiere last June 4, Fuller said he is hoping to see "Silence of the Lamb" characters in his NBC horror TV series. He even once said that he hopes to see Jodie Foster's Clarice Sterling to make an appearance. These ambitions will not come into realizations.
TV Line has confirmed that "Hannibal" season 3 will be the last time fans will see the cat and mouse game of Dr. Lecter (Mads Mikkelsen) and Will Graham (Hugh Dancy). The entertainment website wrote:
"NBC has stuck a fork in Hannibal. The Peacock network has cancelled Bryan Fuller's acclaimed, lush thriller, TVLine has confirmed. The show's current third season will be its last."
In the wake of cancellation, Fuller also released a statement and thanked the network and fans for sticking to it despite its poor rating performance.
"NBC has allowed us to craft a television series that no other broadcast network would have dared, and kept us on the air for three seasons despite Cancellation Bear Chow ratings and images that would have shredded the eyeballs of lesser Standards & Practices enforcers," Fuller said in a statement. "[NBC president] Jen Salke and her team have been fantastic partners and creatively supportive beyond measure.
Despite the bad news about "Hannibal" season 3 being its last run, Fuller remains positive and hopes to work again with NBC.
"Hannibal is finishing his last course at NBC's table this summer," Fuller added, "but a hungry cannibal can always dine again. And personally, I look forward to my next meal with NBC."
NBC, on the other hand, thanked Fuller for bringing different TV experience to people.
"We have been tremendously proud of Hannibal over its three seasons. Bryan and his team of writers and producers, as well as our incredible actors, have brought a visual palette of storytelling that has been second to none in all of television - broadcast or cable. We thank Gaumont and everyone involved in the show for their tireless efforts that have made Hannibal an incredible experience for audiences around the world."
While the cancellation at NBC is already final, fans can still keep their hopes up as according to Adam Bryant of TV Guide, "Hannibal" has attracted suitors before the axing was announced.
