Filipino Version Of ‘Gangnam Style’? Ryan Bang’s Music Video ‘Shopping’ Goes Viral, Actor Says Story Behind The Video Tells A Lot On What Foreigners Think About The Philippines

What can a US $2 bill buy? A fast food meal for most, and a whole bunch of luxury for Philippine celebrity Ryan Bang. His new music video "Shopping" showed how he bought stylish clothes, a new branded watch and a red Ferrari with his US $2 bill.

Ryan Bang, one of the top celebrities in the Philippines, reportedly launched his music video "Shopping" in time for his 24th birthday last weekend in a local noontime show.

The music video, which runs for about five minutes, featured the Korean celebrity winning a jackpot on a slot machine by wagering his US $2 bill. From a random person wearing just a shirt, the video showed Ryan Bang transforming into a sophisticated shopper wearing elegant attires and driving his red convertible Ferrari car.

Ryan Bang's music video was reportedly shot at Resorts World Manila, with his fellow celebrities Eric "Eruption" Tai, teen sensation James Reid and comedian Jayson Gainza joining him in the video, a report by ABS-CBN News said.

The song from Ryan Bang's music video featured an upbeat, techno beat and told the story of a man who spends his slot machine winnings for luxury items. Since the Skinny Fat Boy Productions music video was posted last Friday on YouTube, it has already earned more than 220,000 views as of press time.

In a video interview with website Wazzup.ph, Ryan Bang shared the story behind the video and his story speaks a lot about how foreigners, particularly the Koreans, view the Philippines.

From Ryan Bang's video, the Philippines is shown as a shopping destination with hotels floors that are covered in carpets and huge halls. However, the actor told Wazzup.ph that Koreans think otherwise, and view the country as a place marred by disasters and floods.

He narrated that he once invited his Korean friends to visit the Philippines and asked them to bring money for shopping. His friends were surprised by the idea of bringing money for shopping, he said, because they believed there are no shopping malls in the Philippines.

Ryan Bang added that his Korean friends often see a glimpse of the Philippines shown on Korean television as a country hit by typhoons, not as a developing country.
