Grabbing a cup of freshly brewed coffee or blended iced coffee has never been so convenient in Starbucks stores. In a recent report, the Malaysian wing of the coffee company is eyeing at a more convenient way to grab coffee - by retailing Starbucks products in grocery stores.
According to a report by Malaysian news provider The Sun Daily, Berjaya Starbucks Coffee Company is planning to sell Starbucks products in local retail establishments such as grocery stores, hypermarkets, supermarkets and convenience stores in the next 12 months.
"We are looking at other retail businesses like FMCG (fast moving consumer goods) business where we retail Starbucks products in all retail establishments like hypermarkets, supermarkets and convenience stories," Starbucks Coffee Malaysia and Brunei managing director Sydney Quays said in the report.
They are reportedly now trying to obtain a license from Starbucks Coffee International to start bringing Starbucks Malaysia menu in supermarkets.
The report said some of the possible Starbucks Malaysia menu to be brought for retail in stores are ready-to-drink beverages, the Via instant coffee sachet, and "maybe food items."
"Once we get the licensing, we'll be able to move forward (to working) with the (retail) partners," Quays added in the report.
The official website said Starbucks Malaysia has now surpassed the 190 stores milestone since March 2015. Now on its 16th year of operation serving a wide range of products from its Starbucks Malaysia menu, the coffee company has grown to be a productive member of communities across the Southeast Asian nation.
Quays told The Sun Daily that this move will contribute greatly to the growing demands for the Starbucks products in the country, and said this is a "revenue stream" opportunity.
"Having coffee in your car is acceptable. We see that convenience factor as something that spurs the growth of drive-throughs. It would give us an opportunity of having another avenue to generate income," he said in the report.
Do you think this move to place some products from the Starbucks Malaysia menu to grocery store shelves is something to look forward to?
