Tesla Model S P85D Gets Hot Wheels Version! [Photo] $1 Toy Car A Future Collectible? EV Takes On American Muscle In 1/8 Mile Drag Race!

The all-electric Tesla Model S retails for $105,000 in its top-spec P85D guise. At that price point, the electric vehicle (EV) isn't exactly affordable for most. Mattel solves the problem by making a Hot Wheels version.

Check it out below:

"The toy car retails for $1.09, compared [to] about $100,000 for a fully loaded all-wheel-drive Model S P85D," Bloomberg said. Although a toy, it isn't just meant for children. Adults are also expected to get one for themselves.

Mattel and Tesla Motors collaborated on the toy car, a 1/64th scale version of the actual model. Reportedly, it comes in two colors - silver and red - and based on the range-topping P85D performance model. It even has the red-lined sporty alloy wheels.

"Tesla designers came into our studio," Hot Wheels senior vice president and general manager Chris Down told Bloomberg adding, "To a kid, it has to look like 'Wow, that is like a life-size Tesla Model S.'"

According to CNN Money, Mattel's other toy car brand Matchbox also has its own Tesla Model S toy car of the same size.

It's not the first time a Hot Wheels version of a Tesla car was launched. In 2008, the Tesla Roadster rolled out. As per Bloomberg, those toy cars now cost anywhere between $30 and $50. It remains to be seen if the Model S will attain the same collectability.

Electric cars such as the Model S are known for their near-instant torque delivery and this was put to the test once again. Automotive blog CarScoops reported that a P85D slugged it out with American muscle on a 1/8 mile drag race. The EV battled with drag-ready muscle cars and a few pick-up trucks as well.

But how did the Tesla Model S do? It reportedly made it all the way to the semi-finals. Watch the video here and see it for yourself.
